Noel Gallagher / Snow Patrol 10/23/2012 Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall Portland

This is not a review. It’s just random words from the notebook in my brain.

Last night in Portland was the first stop on their 14-date co-headlining tour.

Jake Bugg opened. He went on at 7:30. He played a half hour acoustic set. Wikipedia tells me his influences are The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Oasis and Alice in Chains. He is 18. I will try to get my 10-year old niece to like him instead of One Direction. We’ll see how that goes. Here’s a clip of him from last night.

So like 10 minutes after Jake Bugg ends, Noel Gallagher and his band come on. They were on at 8:10. I wasn’t sure what co-headlining with Snow Patrol meant timing wise, but it meant both Noel and Snow Patrol played the same length set (one hour and five minutes each). Noel played 14 songs, 8 off his new record and 6 Oasis songs. I wish he played longer. That’s a compliment not a complaint.

Noel’s set:

Good To Be Free, Everybody’s On the Run, Dream On, If I had a Gun, The Death of You and Me, Supersonic, Record Machine, What a Life, Talk Tonight, Broken Arrow, Half the World Away, Stranded on the Wrong Beach, Whatever, Don’t Look Back in Anger

I was hoping for Live Forever or at least Wonderwall, but no dice. I did enjoy the whole set. And the only chatter from noel came when a fan in the front row suggested some tunes he should play and Noel suggested the guy go buy a fucking t-shirt. Haaaa. (See above video).

Snow Patrol played from 9:55 to 11:03. That goofy dancing Gary Lightbody does is distracting. He’s very sweet. They do a good job at what they do, sound was great. They’re just not for me so much. Paint by numbers. I did enjoy hearing Run, though. The end.

This venue was not sold out and I feel like a lot of people were there either for Noel or for Snow Patrol and not for both.

If you’re going, get there on time and catch Jake Bugg, too.

Co-headlining basically means neither band gives you quite the full set you want.Unless you are into each band equally, then it’s perfecto.

Theater show audiences can suck. But thankfully a good portion of the crowd stood up right away during Noel’s set and everyone stood up for Snow Patrol.
